Prince Harry said the royal household regularly leaks stories about each other, calling it “a dirty game” in a new trailer released Monday for the long-awaited Netflix docuseries about him and his wife Meghan. The first three episodes of the series will be available on Thursday, the streaming service said, amid widespread speculation about what the couple, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will say about the other members of the royal family. Since Harry and Meghan stepped down from royal duties two years ago and moved to California, they have been heavily critical of the monarchy and accused of racism, accusations the family has denied. The prince has suggested in interviews that he now barely speaks to the rest of the family, mainly his father, King Charles, and older brother, Prince William, the heir to the throne. “No one knows the full truth,” Harry says in the trailer. “We know the full truth.” Buckingham Palace has not released a statement about the documentary series and did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday. In the short clip, Harry referred to people working for the royal houses briefing journalists on each other, a subject he has spoken about in the past. “There’s a hierarchy of the family. You know there’s leakage, but there’s also the planting of stories,” he says. “It’s a dirty game.”
“FOOD FRIEND”
A voice in the trailer, which appears to be Harry’s, also refers to the “pain and pain of the women who marry into this institution,” while showing images of Harry’s blessed mother Diana and his sister-in-law Kate, calling it “she the feeding frenzy.” The last time Harry and Meghan opened up about their relationship with the other members of the royal family, in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, it plunged the institution into one of the biggest crises of recent years. After Winfrey’s interview, Buckingham Palace promised to take the issues raised seriously, while commenting that “some recollections may differ.” William also said a few days later: “We’re not a very racist family.” Many of Britain’s Sunday papers led the way with stories about the Netflix series, with some anonymous sources accusing the couple of declaring war on the Windsors. The release of the first trailer last week coincided with William and his wife Kate’s first trip to the United States in eight years. The visit was also overshadowed by a racial row involving William’s 83-year-old godmother that led her to step down from her honorary role in the royal household. The royals will now brace themselves for further revelations from Harry and Meghan when the series airs this week. “It’s really hard to look back now and say ‘what the hell happened?’ Harry says in the trailer, in an apparent reference to his and Meghan’s experience in the Royal Family.
