Logan MacNamara’s home surveillance camera captured the terrifying moment her daughter, Rylee, was bitten. She told Storyful that her daughter went outside to wait for the bus and the raccoon was sitting on the porch. The video shows the raccoon quickly latching onto Rylee’s leg, who then screams and tries to shake the animal off. McNamara rushes to her daughter’s aid, grabbing the animal by its throat. She is able to remove it and at one point appears to be holding both the raccoon and her daughter. Once her daughter walks in, she throws the animal into her yard, where it appears to walk away. “I heard her screaming and I ran over to see what was going on. I thought maybe she hit her hand on the door, I didn’t expect to see a raccoon attack her,” MacNamara said. “If I didn’t have the video, I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly what happened, it all happened so quickly.” She said Storyful Rylee has some puncture wounds and said they both have scratches but are doing well. He said Rylee, who usually wears leggings, was wearing jeans and believes that helped prevent more serious injuries. MacNamara confirmed they went to the hospital and said the doctor’s main concern was rabies as the raccoon was out during the day and very aggressive, both signs of viral disease according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection . Although they were unable to find the raccoon to test for rabies, he said they will receive rabies shots in the coming weeks.
