The young man was described as a “hero” after he allegedly gave his life fighting the perpetrator at the family home in Manchester on Thursday. Murder detectives arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with the incident on Friday night, while Jakub’s mother, Katarzyna Bastek, remains in hospital with serious injuries. A person close to the family who asked not to be named said: “There is no way the boy is not a hero. “Everyone here knew him for his kindness and respect.” Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, they added: “He was quiet, but he was a protector. He fought for his family. “He was an amazing man, he was a hero and we have to remember him as one.” Teams of medical examiners were photographed working at the scene, in the Miles Plating neighborhood of the city, on Saturday morning, while the police cordon remained in place. A bunch of flowers seemed to be placed outside the house. Chief Inspector Detective Alicia Smith said the horror “left a community upset and a family reconciled to what was a devastating event for everyone involved.” “Detectives have been working around the clock since this incident was first reported to us and now we have made an arrest that is a huge step forward for the family to get the answers they need.” Jakub – who was one of four – was treated at the scene for stab wounds before being taken to hospital where he died about an hour later, the force said. Speaking on Friday, Chief Inspector Detective Gina Brenand called the attack “wild.” Anyone with information is requested to call the police at 101 referring to incident 3105 of 06/09/2022.
