Hywel Morgan, 47, helped save children in trouble at sea in Poppit Sands, St Dogmaels, Ceredigion. Dyfed-Powys police said the incident happened Friday night, when several people were caught in a tide on the beach. Morgan, who was from the area, was pulled from the sea but could not be rescued by emergency services. Police said Morgan, known as Hyw to family and friends, helped rescue a group of children who were having difficulty in the water. Loved ones published a short tribute to the “devoted and loving father”. “Hayu was a hero. “Despite our pain and grief, we are comforted by the fact that he selflessly tried to prevent others from losing their lives,” they said. “Hyw was a selfless person who always left his time for others. He was a devoted and loving father and was loved and respected by all who knew him. “As a family, we would now like to mourn and ask for privacy to do so.” Two children were taken to hospital for examination after the incident, police confirmed.
