Vancouver – Loretta Rogers, the mother of the Rogers family and longtime director of telecommunications giant Rogers Communications Inc., has died at the age of 83.
Martha Rogers’s daughter confirmed her death in a tweet she posted on Saturday, calling her mother a “beautiful soul” who “had incredible strength of character”.
Loretta Rogers was the widow of company founder Ted Rogers, who died in 2008 and served as a director on the corporate board.
He was one of many members of the family at the center of a struggle for control of the company last fall that began when the son of Edward Rogers, the president of the company, tried to oust its CEO.
She and two of her daughters, who are also members of the board, opposed the move, saying they were opposed to the company’s governance practices.
But Edward Rogers went ahead with his plans after the BC Court. reaffirmed his right to do so.
