According to a warning from Parliament’s Protection Service (PPS) received by CTV News Ottawa, there was an order “in a shelter” because of what PPS called a “potential threat”. Parliament Hill was evacuated. “Earlier today, a warning was sent through the Emergency Alert System (ENS) to all MPs and parliamentary staff from the Parliamentary Protection Service regarding an operation that is in progress with a possible threat,” the PPS said in a statement. “All the Parliament buildings are in the Shelter in Place until recently and Parliament has been evacuated. As the situation continues, our highest priority remains the security of the parliamentary community and the public. We continue to work closely with our security partners. “ Neither the PPS nor the Ottawa Police Department have given details at this time about the nature of the potential threat. Wellington Street in front of the Houses of Parliament was closed from Elgin Street to Bronson Avenue, as was Metcalfe Street between Albert and Slater Streets, according to police. The streets reopened shortly after 3:30 p.m. and visitors were allowed back to Parliament Hill. The PPS has given everything clearly to the deputies. “The investigation into the suspected Hill Hill incident has been completed. No threat to public safety has been identified. The area has reopened to the public. We thank the public for their cooperation,” the Ottawa Police Department said on Twitter. A section of Wellington Street has been closed to traffic since the Freedom Convoy’s ousting in February, but the hill has remained accessible to pedestrians. This is breaking news. More details will follow…
